Rollerski Newsletter, 28th October 2010 It's a great and continual challenge, organising and encouraging people to rollerski here in the UK. We try lots of different things to bring people in, and keep it interesting - which I hope we do.
November sees the preparation for the winter step up a gear - with the ski season just around the corner. Again this year, we're preparing a lot of people for cross-country ski holidays and the ski marathon season. Our club is busy, and we have a full range of sessions for beginners and developing skiers alike At Dorney this month and in December, we will have one of our most experienced instructors, Alan Eason, back from Australia and getting ready for a busy season of teaching and racing. I've written more about all of this below - I hope you find it all very interesting, and hope to see you soon.

ROLLERSKI CLUB Our rollerski club programme is now updated for the Autumn. We had a pretty good turnout for the racing recently. Felicity Bertram and Tucker Murphy won the mens' and ladies' categories of the 4-hr race for the London Hyde Park Club. Felicity runs the juniors and Richmond sessions and Tucker, who is studying at Oxford, was at the Vancouver Olympics, representing Bermuda. Full results here.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKI TRIPS The economy's been presenting some interesting challenges lately, but it looks like cross-country ski holidays are bearing up well (according to the people in charge). If you value the freedom and 'back to basics' nature of cross-country ski holidays, and don't want to pay for lift passes, cross-country skiing makes a lot of sense. It also lacks the expense of lift passes and the equipment is a fraction of the cost. I remind people that cross-country skiing is downhill skiing (plus uphill skiing, plus skiing on the flat).
Our on-snow trips are filling up well - we still have places on our Januray trip to Obertilliach, and have added another trip to Hochfilzen in February, focusing on classic technique. (Our trip to Hochfilzen for the Koasalauf race is now full). You can find out more and book here. Alan Eason, who runs the trips, has just won Snowsport England's Robert Hovey trophy for outstanding contribution to British cross-country skiing.
