Rollerski Trip: Lithuania August 2012
Following on from our June rollerski holiday - and with the cross-country ski season approaching - we are organising another rollerski trip to Lithuania.
Taking place in Ignalina, the national centre for cross-country skiing and biathlon, this will be 3 or 7 days or of rollerskiing, kayaking, mountain biking, biathlon shooting and other training, around the hills and lakes of the Aukstaitija National Park. The aim is to get you ready for winter cross-country ski holidays and ski marathon racing, with a chance to train (and eat) like athletes for a few days.
The focus of this trip will be on training, with a high standard of coaches led by Mantas Strolia, former Lithuanian champion cross-country skier and competitor in the 2010 Vancover Olympics. Mantas will be joined by his mother, Kazimiera Stroliene, a Olympic cross-country skier and biathlete, and manager of the Lithuanian national cross-country ski team. Together they have taken part in four Winter Olympic games, and have experience of preparing athletes at all levels.
Numbers are limited to 12, with a maximum coaching ratio of 1:6.
Participants should be reasonably fit, and have a decent ability on rollerskis. There is no need to be super-fit, just a desire to become a better cross-country skier this season.
There will be 2 training sessions per day - rollerskiing in the morning, and other activities, including kayaking, Nordic walking and gym work in the afternoon. There will be optional - but recommended - pre-breakfast warm-up sessions each day.
Aside from training, you will have a chance to relax on the beach and swim in the local lakes, situated only a few hundred metres from the farmstead. Ignalina is a popular holiday destination and is situated in the Aukstaitija National Park. You will also be well fed - Lithuanian food includes delicious meals like pancakes, porridge (aka 'mash') and omlettes (for breakfast); soups, beef, pork and chicken dishes, fish, goulash and lamb ribs for main meals. Vegetarian meals are also provided.
To book - below we ask you to pay a deposit of £40 for the instruction. The remaining £110 / £220 is payable by 15th August. Please book your flights as soon as possible, for the best prices. Accommodation and food will be payable in Lithuania - Mantas will help with booking accommodation and arranging meals. You can pay for the return coach transfer below, to meet the recommended flights - if you come at other times, airport transfers by taxi can be arranged.
Feedback from June trip -
"We really enjoyed our visit to Lithuania & really can't think of anything that could have made it better. We particularly enjoyed the kayaking, nordic walking & the roller ski coaching & felt that we improved as a result & came back a little bit fitter. I particularly liked the afternoon naps. The setting was great, with the lake, sauna & bbq".
