Learn the basics of skating and classic rollerski technique at Redbridge Cycle Circuit in Essex / East London. Or join our Level 2 intermediate group to improve, or transfer advanced skills from snow.

Redbridge Cycle Circuit is one of the absolute best roller ski venues in England, with a flat lower section ideal for beginners and a couple of hills of varying lengths and steepness for more experienced (Level 2) skiers - all with near perfect tarmac. The courses take place with cross-country skiing in mind, so you can ski better on snow, and enjoy the thrills of skiing, touring and racing all the more. For L2 courses the focus is hills (up and down).

We have several courses a year at Redbridge and you can find upcoming course dates and booking details below.

The beginners' course takes you through the basics of both skating and classic rollerski technique. We help you to develop good balance on rollerskis, and for beginners we go through the basic 'gears' of classic and skating techniques.

The skating part of the day takes you through the essential elements of the three skating 'gears' - skate 1, skate 2 and skate 3 as well as stopping and turning. On classic you will go through the gears of diagonal stride, kick double pole and double poling. We work hard to develop good balance and body positions, with a number of drills and exercises. After the course, beginners can potentially do a Level 2 course or join our London training group.

Our Level 2 course will focus very much on hills, both uphill and downhill technique, both skating and classic. We normally arrange an optional and informal short race during the day, which some Level 2 skiers might want to take part in. The Level 2 courses are suitable for recreational and racing skiers interested in advancing technically.

For beginners, we assume zero previous knowledge or ski experience, but you should have reasonable fitness and balance. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

The course is from 10.00-16.00 and you can start to get the equipment from 09.50. Sandwiches and snacks are included. We meet by our 'rollerski van' which is between the car park and the main centre building. You can also sign up to just part of the day here.

Members of our Hyde Park and Olympic Park club training groups should pay the 'excluding equipment' price, and borrow the equipment for no extra charge.

Before you come -

Please bring gloves with you, and a filled in Safety Questionnaire (if you don't have a printer don't worry, we have spares).
